SCONE JUNIOR GOLF ACADEMY
The Scone Golf Club Junior Golf Academy has been set up to foster the game of golf amongst school aged children from the Upper Hunter area.
JUNIOR GOLF ACADEMY PROGRAM: INFORMATION - 2026 Term 1
Well, we are back after a very successful program in 2025. Several of our Academy members are now full members of the Golf Club and have received their Golf Australia (GA) handicaps. The Academy program consists of skills workshops and competition play on each Sunday morning during school term.
Our program involves weekly coaching from our Golf Members, complimented with Professional coaching from PGA Teaching Professional Jordana Barnes, focusing on areas of technique, on-course play and golfing etiquette, as well as the key ingredient to any sport – fun!
We believe that golf should be always enjoyed, and we try to make it fun for all kids no matter their level of expertise. As one parent has commented “I have always liked the encouraging manner in which you have taught golf, and they take it as an enjoyable pastime rather than being too hard on themselves.”
The program is open to all school age children. Cost is $40.00 for each term. $20.00 for Golf Club Members.
Workshops will run weekly, weeks 1-9 of each term. Parents are welcome and are encouraged to support their children especially accompanying them when they are out on the course.
OBJECTIVES of ACADEMY:
Weekly workshops.
There are three divisions within the program –
The Academy sessions will be held starting on Sunday morning from 1 February at 9.30am to about 11.30am and run weekly until and including 29 March when we will have a full competition with individual players playing for prizes.
In weeks 1-8, Joey’s and Cadets will attend weekly coaching sessions with a member of the club, working on their golf game both on the practice facilities and most weeks playing some holes on the golf course. Sessions will include a warmup routine, game play, skill development in putting, chipping, stroke play and golf etiquette, as well as play out on the course, time permitting.
Juniors will be out on the course playing up to 9 holes when Jordana’s workshops are not being held.
In week 9 of term all academy members will compete in either a 5-hole formal competition for Joeys and Cadets and a 9-hole formal competition for Juniors as part of the Academy’s Junior Progression Program.
If your child is interested in registering for the Academy, complete the attached registration form and bring it along on your child’s first attendance.
All members of Scone Golf Club who are organising the running of the workshops have Working with Children accreditation.
